20 x 20 Horse Barn Instructions
Use rough sawed lumber for the entire project. It is cheap and easy to use. It has great cosmetics and is very strong. It may not last forever, but it is perfect for this economical horse shelter.
Use batter boards to layout the posts with orange marking paint. Dig or drill the holes two feet deep. Stand the posts and brace them with two braces each. Make sure they are plumb and pour premixed concrete around them. Establish a level mark on each post. Nail on the roof beams and the wall girts.
Set the trusses and brace them well. Nail on the roof battens. Lay the metal roofing. Use rough sawed lumber for the siding on the walls. Build the door frame and hang it with over sized hinges. Run the siding on the door.
Do not paint the barn or use any kind of preservatives on it. Some horses have a tendency to nibble away at anything they can reach. Remember that horse barns require regular clean outs.
